AREA B SCHEDULE LINE VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
# 2016-06_
There is now a FRI/SAT RDO schedule line open for bid.
SUN-16 MON-1330NF TUES-8 WED-7 THUR-6 FRI-X SAT-X
This move will occur no sooner than PP 26.
This vacancy shall be filled by the CPC volunteer with the highest seniority. If you wish to be considered for this vacancy, fill out a SCHEDULE VACANCY BID FORM (or tell Joe or Kip) and submit it to the Area Scheduler no later than COB 10/16/16.
.
Remember: If you make a voluntary RDO change, you are not guaranteed to get Prime/Non-Prime leave on the days that used to be your RDOs.
I mistakenly said yesterday its within 28 days in regards to shift change requests and our actual policy is within 27 days.
Derrr.....my bad
SHIFT CHANGES:
So some people were unaware and some people may have just forgot. As a reminder shift change requests cannot be requested more than 28 days out from the beginning of the Pay Period.
For Example PP24 was just published with Sunday 10/30 being the first day. That would make today 10/2 the first day to make eligible shift change requests for any day during that 2 week period.
Webschedules doesn't restrict you from making the request but invalid requests will be skipped by any legitimate requests.
ALL MEMBERS MEETING:
Also as a reminder this Thursday Oct. 6th there is an all members meeting at 1430 in the East/West Conference room.
The main topic will be next years BWS/PT MOU's and process.
Well that didn't take long...
Had everyone come to us and said yes this looks great to me it may have been a viable option. Unfortunately that is not what we ended up with. In the end there are just too many variables and moving parts to nail down all 31 lines ahead of time. That said the great dream experiment is over and we will just be moving forward with the most balanced schedule and then filling out the dream sheets after everyone is pinned down to a line.
Thanks everyone for participating and again a big shout out to DL.
First and foremost a big shoutout to Jeff Enticknap for taking his own time to try the great dream experiment. If you see him give him a high five or a drink or both :)
Below you can see our two options moving forward. One is the dream schedule that is built with everyones input and also another standard schedule. The one problem we have run into in the past with building specific lines for people is when someones vacates a line for whatever reason (retirement, medical, detail, promotion) and now you have a wonky line. Rebalancing can happen with either schedule and if need be peoples lines are always subject to change. I can assure you we will never force someone to an all swing line that they never signed up for. If for whatever reason that did arise we would just have to move a few peoples early first and second days back to later shifts. The rest of the lines on the dream schedule are fairly standard anyhow.
Obviously I can't tell you with all certainly how next year will play out but at the time of this writing I'm only aware of one potential retirement (80% certain they will go in August) while forecasting adding two lines with Whitney and Loren certifying sometime next year. We do have 5 others who are eligible to COX/SCHMIDT out at any time :)
First the DREAM Schedule and Guides:
And our other option:
One thing that people keep saying is, what if I decide i like someone elses dream better...well take a look now and ensure that if you say you want to move forward with the dream schedule you intend to bid the line as it currently shows.
Please provide feedback, preferably on the website so we can get the areas feeling on this.
Hey guys,
I'll try not to make this too long but we do have a few things to talk about.
- All Members Meetings
A reminder about next weeks upcoming All Members Meetings.
Monday Aug 15th 3pm at the Rainbow Cafe next to Safeway in Auburn and Friday August 19th at 3pm at the spunky monkey in Auburn. This is your pre-convention meeting where you can make your voice heard and let your delegates know how you want them to vote regarding important topics including:
- Changes to seniority based on Military Time, FCT (Federal Contract Time), and previously held supervisor roles
- Privitization efforts/language
- Term Limits
- Frequency of the convention 2/3 years
We will also discuss the new contract, credit hours, next years schedules and leave bidding.
- 2016 Bidding
There are a few individuals who are still wanting to bid leave this year. Most of the FLM's are over it by now and its not necessarily their priority. Help your brothers and sisters out by helping to move the bid along. (Next year will be better with a last round where one can bid out their accrued leave)
- Credit Hours
Speaking of helping your brothers and sisters out, credit hours are back!
There are quite a few newer controllers who have never worked with credit hours and I won't get into all of the details here but the beauty of credit hours is being able to get a day off that you may not otherwise would have been able to by securing a replacement to work for you. (I.E. You are requesting AL but we are already below guides, you ask XX on an RDO if they can work for you, you get your AL and they get 8 hours of Credit Hours that can be used as leave another time)
One caveat is that FLM's/CIC's are still required to go by order of request in webschedules. So if you secure a replacement for your shift, you will still have to get agreement from anyone in front of you to allow you to "skip" them. That being said it is my belief that the employee who does the leg work deserves the day off. Just remember we are all in this together and this can be a great tool if we help each other out.
I expect growing pains as we transition back into credit hours and issues will arise so please bring them to me so we can all get on the same page.
Employees are expected to manage their own balances with a maximum of 24 hours banked.
One other note is that Credit Hours cannot be substituted for any Bid Leave. (Credit hours are not supposed to cost the agency money and with guaranteed leave they may backfill OT)
- 2017 Schedule
Its about that time. Jeff Enticknap is helping again this year with building the schedule and we are going to try something new this year and are asking everyone to fill out a "dream schedule sheet." You will find them in the area soon. Please do your best to be realistic based on your previous years RDO opportunities and realizing that not everyone can work 5 day shifts. The more realistic you are the more helpful/meaningful it will be on the schedule we attempt to build. Feel free to put down more than one option if you are flexible. CWS and 5-4-9's don't look promising since we are looking at bidding 31 lines but again feel free to write them in as an option and we will explore every avenue.
Also if you have general suggestions or ideas regarding next years schedule feel free to either add them to the forms or talk to Jeff and I directly. Once you have completed the form please put it in Jeff's (DL) headset box.
- Volunteer Solicitation (keep reading its minimal commitment)
Looking for two volunteers to serve on SRM panels (Risk analysis). Both should be one day deals probably a couple of hours. The bigger one is in regards to the Sector 5 redesign and its impact, the other is regarding a new UAS operation at TMK. If you're looking to try something new this is your chance to try something out without much commitment.
- New Faces
Lastly there are two new faces in the B area. Brandon McGorty and Jonathon Burton both just completed Stage 3 in the back and have come to the floor. Congrats, welcome, and good luck to them.
Thanks for reading this far and hope to see everyone at one of the upcoming meetings :)
Kip
There is now a reverse Sat/Sun RDO schedule line open for bid..

This move will occur no sooner than PP 19.
This vacancy shall be filled by the CPC volunteer with the highest seniority. If you wish to be considered for this vacancy, fill out a SCHEDULE VACANCY BID FORM (or tell Joe or Kip) and submit it to the Area Scheduler no later than COB 7/31/16
Remember: If you make a voluntary RDO change, you are not guaranteed to get Prime/Non-Prime leave on the days that used to be your RDOs.
Hey Everyone,
Not a lot going on in the B area just wanted to let you guys know about a few things.
First off we are still looking for article 5 volunteers for Brandon McGorty and Jonathon Burton. Stage 3 lab dates are 6/27 - 8/04. Even if you have leave during this time or can only commit to part of the class let us know and we can look at sharing responsibility. It would also be possible to modify your schedule to Sun-Thurs or 4 10's M-Th if one was so inclined.
Also, i was recently made aware of our policy regarding bidding. From here on out if you have 0 days left to bid you will be skipped. If you want to change any of your bid leave notify me and I will make sure to notify you on your next opportunity. As of now I'm showing the following people already at Zero's: Gil, Abbi, Kari, Pirate, Byron, Samson, Evan, and Jonathon.
Lastly, I want to make sure everyone is receiving these emails, so if you could just give any sort of quick reply to let me know I would appreciate it. I know a few people have been finding them in their spam folders after others told them about the line bid and I want to make sure this form of communication gets to everyone.
Thanks,
Kip
P.S. If you need to contact me for any reason feel free at either kipkarsh@gmail.com or my cell number is (206) 940-6769

So the announcement states to notify by COB 5/25/16, but we are trying to expedite the bidding this time so that we can get both Brians move and the winner of this line by PP 15. If you can reply with a simple yes or no (you can reply directly to this email or kipkarsh@gmail.com) it would be greatly appreciated.

I urge everyone to try to make it to these events, especially if you've never attended one.

Best Temp Rep. Eva,

Brothers and Sisters,
First and foremost a huge round of applause for the outgoing Area Rep as well as long time Secretary Rick Lund. He has served us well over the years and his commitment and dedication are unparalleled. Its a thankless job most of time, so again THANKS UW!
Rick Already covered most of the ongoing issues in his last update, I only have a few things to add. As of right now Troy is scheduled to meet with Chuck on Monday to hopefully finalize everything so that we can move forward with bidding. We will then still need time to brief everyone and its only a guess at this point but possibly Jan. 11th to begin bidding. In the meantime I urge everyone to continue submitting SF-71's via webschedules during already published and upcoming schedule requests.
Rick is going to stay on to help with the bidding process and will most likely have someone on the other side of the schedule to assist in moving bidding along. The same as in years past we will be setup on Google Docs and hopefully we can get through the first couple rounds rather quickly.
As Rick alluded to I will be out of the building for an extended period of time and staying on top of the day-to-day type of things won't always be possible so I have Ligaya filling in for me in the meantime. That being said I'm going to stay involved as possible and if you need anything don't hesitate to shoot me an email or give me a call.

I look forward to the challenges ahead serving as your B-Area Rep. 2016 holds a lot of variables including an expiring contract as well as Presidential elections, and the ever-looming privitization questions. I urge everyone to stay/get involved (this is a convention year as well). Some of you have only seen "redbook" days, but as we all know tides can change quickly.
Don't forget there is an all members meeting Monday January 11th at 3pm, Spunky Monkey. This will be a good chance for us to address all of the questions that may arise from the Leave MOU implementation.
Kip Karsh
Hi everyone,
Apparently P80 and our management have been discussing a change to the P80 LOA. I have a feeling that this request may have come from P80, but I'm not sure.
I will try to describe it as best I can and in turn, I would like to find out from all of you if this is something we want to pursue.
Scenario #1 - N123 is just east of SLE airport at FL060 northbound direct UBG VOR. The aircraft will clip the HOOD sector and then enter the Newberg sector. P80 does not want us to make a call to the HOOD sector for a point out because they have already done this internally. As long as the Newberg sector takes the hand-off prior to the HOOD sector needing a point out, no coordination would have to be done with the HOOD sector because it would be in the LOA. I believe it would also be the same as when you have an aircraft descending to FL060 northbound to UBG VOR that would not be level prior to HOOD sector needing a point out.
Scenario #2 - P80 hands off an aircraft to sector 6 out the LMT gate that would require P80 to give sector 5 a point out through the "pie area". They do not want to make the call to sector 5. They want sector 6 to put the aircraft on sector 5 and have sector 6 make the point out internally.
These are a few examples that I heard. I would like to hear from the B-Area any thoughts as to why you would agree or disagree to this. If you don't want to put down any reasons why, I would still like a YES or NO so that we can really see which way the area would be leaning towards.
Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to seeing what the B-Area thinks about this.
Rick Lund
