Denver Pre Convention 2018

In preparation for our biennial NATCA Convention that will be in Philadelphia, Troy, Drew and I attended the Pre Convention meeting in Denver. Along with our fellow regional Northwest Mountain (NNM) facilities and jointly with the Central Region (NCE), we discussed the latest goings on in our union while also fleshing out all of the amendments and resolutions being proposed for the Philadelphia Convention next month.

Some of the highlights were:

  • Safety
  • Legislative (HATCH ACT MATERIAL, DO NOT OPEN THE LINK BELOW AND SHARE AT WORK)
  • The Respect campaign
  • ATC Reform after the AIRR Act has gone
  • Staffing
  • What to expect at the Philadelphia Convention in terms of activities and training (REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS END ON 3/20 AND WILL GET MORE EXPENSIVE THE CLOSER IT GETS!)
  • And a little more. As usual, use the link for the notes I took while I was there

As far as the amendments and resolutions, we will have a local meeting this Friday at the Rainbow Cafe at 1500L where we will discuss and seek your guidance on how you want us to vote and accurately represent our local. Please try and attend.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any of your E board members. As always, it is a privilege to be able to represent this facility on your behalf.

- Alex Navarro III, ZSE VP

NATCA in Washington Attendance

NiW is quickly closing in on us.  This year it will be May 21-23 (M-W). Typically we fly in on Sunday night (May 20th this year) and leave on the last day.  If you are interested in going, here are a few things to consider:

- A stipend will be between $800-$1000 depending on how many people sign up to go. Any costs over that amount will be paid by the member.

- Currently, airfare is hovering around $600 dollars with few direct flight options.

- 1/2 of the hotel fees will be paid by national and the rest will fall to the member. If you share a room with another member, it will be paid in full.

- If you would like to attend, even if it's a long shot, please let me (via Slack or 206.406.0194) or any member of your E. Board know ASAP (AND PRIOR TO BUYING ANYTHING) so we can figure out the finances associated with that.

Thank you for your time.

Alex Navarro III, ZSE VP

Basic Legislative Class Mar 22-23 in Seattle

Please consider attending this class on March 22-23. If you're on the fence about the political landscape and how it intersects with our career, I would strongly recommend attendance. This doesn't mean that you are now tethered to politics nor is that the expectation. Go and get educated and then make up your own mind. If you do want to attend, please let any of your E Board members know and sign up through https://portal.natca.org.  Feel free to contact me on Slack or on my cell 206.406.0194 if you have any questions.  Below are some more details courtesy NNM Legislative Lead Richard Kennington.

A Basic Legislative Training is coming up in Seattle on March 22-23. If you are interested in attending, please go to https://portal.natca.org this week and register so that we can get an accurate head count and lock in our contract. As a reminder, the region will pay for two nights in a hotel for those outside the commuting area. Travel will be the responsibility of the attendee but locals are permitted and encouraged to help out where possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Richard Kennington

SkyOne Assistance in the event of a Government Shutdown via Dina Earl

The following message is from Dina Earl of SkyOne Credit Union.  Please take a moment to read the flier if you think you might need a little extra fiscal cushion in the event a Government Shutdown lasts long (which it hasn't ever before). Dina also recommends registering for an account with SkyOne today rather than on Saturday as the congestion might be high this weekend. If you have any questions, please use the toll-free number on the flier or you can contact Dina via her email.

Alex Navarro III, ZSE VP

Applications for this loan can only be submitted the first day of the shutdown. So if it happens on a Saturday, applications can be submitted online, a call back will happen that following Monday.

Membership can be done now online.

Thanks,

Dina Earl
