All,
We are hearing around the country that some districts/facilities are trying to change the way we request sick leave. We have yet to hear this at ZSE. If absolutely anything is outside of the norm when you call in to request leave, please let us know.
Keep in mind that Article 25 Section 2 has a list of "must" reasons. Section 3 has a list of "may" reasons. The agency may ask you which one of those you are. Additionally, Article 25, Section 7 states that as long as you’re not on a SL letter, the only time they can require a “medical certificate” is when it is for more than four days.
If asked why you are requesting sick leave, we suggest to you answer with one of these options:
I am requesting sick leave in accordance with article 25 section 2 a, b, c, or d which ever applies
I am requesting sick leave due to being incapacitated for work
I am requesting sick leave in accordance with article 25 section 3 a or b
Show me on sick leave on accordance with my FMLA.
If you refuse to answer, we assume management will start disciplinary proceedings.
Notify us immediately if:
They insist on using ANY sort of checklist.
They tell you in your capacity as CIC you have to ask these questions.
They ask any additional questions or demand any additional info such as actual symptoms or specifics on medical procedures.
If they make changes to working conditions without or try to deny any leave.
